Nate Riggs and I are back for another episode of This Week in Restaurant Technologies is on our Google+ page and available directly on YouTube, and this week we’ve got the casual dining segment in our crosshairs.
- Casual dining giant Applebee’s has trademarked the phrase “No Tech Tuesdays”. Much ado about nothing? You’ll note that I didn’t say they’ve launched a promotion called “No Tech Tuesdays” nor has an ad campaign hit the airwaves for “No Tech Tuesdays”. They merely trademarked the phrase. Hear what Nate and I have to say.
- Meanwhile, Aaron Allen weighs in on TGI Fridays as an answer to their $10 Endless Appetizers promotion. He says this it’s lunacy. While both Nate and I disagree, we do like a couple of his recommendations for the casual dining segment.
- Caribou Coffee has used Pinterest in a way that helps it come out from the shadow Starbucks hangs over the coffee space. Hear our take on how Caribou’s doing with this strategy.
- Big data. Are you sick of hearing it yet? Don’t be — the term will evolve and the effort behind will ultimately transform the restaurant industry. It’s been one of the most popular articles we’ve written here, and there’s another good one over at Restaurant Briefing, taking insights from Mike Lukianoff of Czar Metrics, along with great insight from Zipscene CEO Sameer Mungur. (Disclosure: I work for Zipscene.)
